Olympians popular Boxed Set Books new arrival 1-6: Zeus, Athena, Hera, Hades, Poseidon & Aphrodite online

Description

Product Description

This sturdy boxed set includes paperback editions of the first six Olympians books by multiple New York Times–bestselling author/illustrator George O''Connor.

By Zeus, it''s Athena, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Aphrodite!

In OLYMPIANS, O’Connor draws from primary documents to reconstruct and retell classic Greek myths. But these stories aren’t sedate, scholarly works. They’re action-packed, fast-paced, high-drama fantasy adventures, with monsters, romance, and not a few huge explosions. O’Connor’s vibrant, kinetic art brings ancient tales to undeniable life, in a perfect fusion of super-hero aesthetics and ancient Greek mythology.

Collectors will adore this packaged set, with lots of new artwork and a free poster featuring the complete Olympians family tree. Holy Hera!

Aphrodite Almighty, what a value!

My kids can''t get enough of Greek Mythology and based on reviews I thought this would be good for my 6 year olds but after receiving and looking at some of the images and text I thought it was borderline too mature for them. The women are not drawn overtly sexy but just enough I felt a bit uncomfortable. It was too late as they saw the books and dove right into them, but I read them with them and explained to them what I thought about the characterization of the women and lets be honest Aphrodite is supposed to be beguiling, so I get it, just was a little surprised because I got the feeling from reviews it would be perfect for kids to read on their own. These are the times I wish there were still book stores...

The books are beautifully illustrated and great content. However, the age group and grade level this is described as being appropriate for is complete off base. This isn’t just sanitized violence you’ll see in books designed for kids. As an example, this included where a child was killed and then cooked and served to the father and he didn’t know it was his child and ate it. Like what the heck is that doing in a book described for children of this age?

So great books but do nothing give them to the age of the children described.

George O''Connor --The Oracle who enticed my child to read.

I picked up the Olympians box set after seeing George O''Connor at the 2015 Gaithersburg Book Festival and gave it to my son for his 10th birthday. Two weeks ago, we went on vacation to Rome and Greece, and he brought several of the books with him. We were impressed that our son, who normally does not like to read, was fully engrossed in George''s books, spouting off figures and relationships between the gods, asking questions even I had to look up. Whenever we had questions about which god was father/mother/brother/sister, etc, we turned to the chart that George included with his books. Thank you, George, for writing an engaging and informative series of graphic novels that raptly hold the attention of the most difficult to reach age group--10-year-old boys. I lift a laurel wreath to you.

I purchased this set because one of the books (in the set) was listed as an option in my son''s school summer reading list ... he is a reluctant reader ... a summer reading assignment is like torture to him ... he has to write two reading responses which will be graded before the school year even begins. (((ughhhh)))

I purchased the set because I like graphic novels, I love mythology and I hoped that my son might connect with the format enough to actually read one. (He won''t do the summer assignments unless I make him; he''d rather get an F than do homework over the summer. Since I have to work him through them, I need to read his books ... might as well get one that I''ll enjoy too ... )

Long story shortened, he''s read 4 of them well enough to initiate a conversation about them (!!!), has expressed interest in reading the rest of the set and has already asked me if I would purchase more of the series. (((Mom doing a happy dance here!)))

Books are of excellent quality. Art is gorgeous and expressive. Stories are engaging. End notes (several pages) add depth and substance.

Highly recommend!

This series is well thought out, beautifully illustrated, and compelling to read. George O''Connor is faithful to the original material and provides intelligent choices on which myths to select and how to represent them. My 8 year old picked up the first one with little enthusiasm, but half an hour later he was hooked. Within a few days, all the books had been finished and I had to order the single issues of books 7-11. He has the Olympians poster up in his bedroom and goes through the "who''s who" about once a week. We''re eagerly awaiting the final book on Dionysus next year!

The entire series mind you and it isn''t dumbed down at all but rather enjoyable and the characters are relateable despite the fact that they''re deities. Anyway, her dad and I read them too. I hope the author writes more of these. Perhaps a demigod series? Now the kids are back to not wanting to read again.

My 10 year old daughter was looking for books to learn Greek mythology. She was disappointed when they first came because she thought they would be more like facts about Greek mythology not graphic novels.

She quickly changed her mind though and has read all of them and asked for more not included in this set.

As a parent, graphic novels make my head spin. So I personally haven’t read them.

My son is 9 years old . He is a great reader yet he doesn’t really like to read unless it’s a graphic novel . He somehow got hooked on DogMan and Capitan Underpants which I never quite approved of due to lack of vocabulary . Finding these books was a miracle because I wanted something that will keep his focus on reading and it wouldn’t be boring yet I wanted something educational as well. Those books cover everything. I bought all books and my son read the first 6 in a very short period of time .
